Joanne Owen is the Lifestyle Assistant at Twyford House. Joanne has worked in Social Care for 16 years and is passionate about promoting independence in a person-centred way. Prior to taking up her post at Twyford House, Joanne worked for 12 years as an Activities Coordinator at a nursing care home for young disabled adults.
Joanne’s role involves putting together a varied, engaging and enjoyable programme for residents at Twyford House.
1. How long have you worked at Twyford House?
I started as Lifestyle Assistant at Twyford House in July 2020. Before that, I was activities coordinator at a care home for young disabled adults for 12 years.
2. What is your favourite part of your role?
I love seeing the joy and satisfaction residents feel when they try something new. It is so rewarding. I’ve also learned lots of things as well! For example, during our Knit and Natter sessions, residents have been teaching me how to knit and I’m now working on making my own bed runner. No two days are ever the same here at Twyford House, and that’s part of the joy of working here.
3. What do you like to do outside of work?
I enjoy socialising with my friends and family. I have two teenagers who keep me very busy too! I also enjoy reading, live music, visiting new places, and running.
