What is Respite Care?

Usually lasting around two weeks or longer our respite service offers carers a break while their loved one is looked after in safe surroundings by qualified care assistants.

Typically respite comes into play as part of a recovery process following an accident or illness or when a regular carers needs some time to rest and recover. Respite care is also available for elderly people who require extra support following hospital stays or illness.

Caring for a loved one can be physically, mentally and emotionally demanding, especially when combined with balancing day-to-day tasks.

Therefore, it is important to take a break for the sake of your own health and well-being, as well as the safety of the individual that you care for. Our respite services are there to help you to take a well earned break, safe in the knowledge that your loved one is being cared for in a safe and welcoming home.

Whatever your situation, our team are on hand to help you through what can be a very challenging and testing time.

The Benefits of Respite Care

  • Reduces stress for the carer and family – Caring for a vulnerable loved one is undoubtedly a stressful time, especially if their health is deteriorating. Respite care allows you all to take a brief step away to reduce stress levels. This can often even lead to greater levels of patience in the future.
  • Strengthens social connections – Often carers can be so busy caring for a loved one that their own emotional well-being can be overlooked with social circles breaking down. Respite care provides carers with time to connect with family, friends and the wider community, helping you to overcome feelings of loneliness and isolation.
  • Allows the person receiving care valuable interaction with other people – Respite care offers a change of scenery for the person being cared for and the chance to take part in different activities and new social circles. We understand that maintaining a routine is vital for lots of people, and we do everything we can to uphold that while offering residents the chance to enjoy a range of group and individual activities.
  • Experience life in Lovett Care Home – As a person’s needs become more complex, full-time residential care may become more of a possibility in the future. Respite care can help to accustom an individual to a residential care environment and allay any fears or apprehensions those who care for them might have.
