Each month we like to have a varied programme of activities at our residential care homes in Stoke on Trent. The month of June is no exception, as we like to bring everyone together with a series of events which help to foster friendships and develop the communities at both Hilton House and Goldendale House. Isolation and loneliness can be avoided with interaction and stimulating activities and by residents upholding a great social life within our care, there are many benefits to individual and collective health and well being.
On Thursday 13th June we held a Cupcake Day in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. The downstairs lounge was the place where residents, staff, family and friends could meet for a chat over coffee, tea and cakes while raising money for a charity close to our hearts.
Lovett Care offers specialist dementia care in Stoke on Trent and we provide accommodation and support to residents who live with the condition. We always enjoy doing our bit to help charities like the Alzheimer’s Society, especially where cake is involved!
Following on from our Dementia Awareness Week activities the previous month we continued the theme of the colour blue by spending time dying some forget me not seeds blue and then planting them in the garden in memory of one of our late resident Alice. Doing tasks in the garden gets people outside and experiencing the benefits of fresh air, gentle exercise, and jobs which involve dexterity and coordination. We have raised beds and planters to make these activities easier for those with limited mobility. In this case we were able to combine this with a fitting tribute to a dearly departed friend.
Continuing the food theme, for our Italian Themed Tea Evening on Monday 3rd June we enjoyed an Italian meal of pasta & bolognese with everyone making Italian style flags and bunting for table decorations.
